Character Profile

Kotobuki Ran is the main character of the anime and manga series GALS! She's spunky, fashion obsessed, protective, violent, and the self proclaimed 'worlds greatest gal'! Her best friends include Miyu, an ex gang leader, and Aya, the top of the class when it comes to grades (the opposite of the bottom of the class: Ran).

Though she comes from a family of policemen (her mother, father, older brother, grandmother, grandfather, great grandmother, and great grandfather were all policemen) she refuses to walk the path her parents have chosen for her, and is determined to stay a gal till the end. However her mile wide justice streak does nothing to support her decision as she strives to help her friends and others (although usually not others unless it involves something for herself). This shows on many an occasion as she violently disposes of threats to her friends and aggressively snaps those lost back to reality. She helps a depressed Aya find the courage to do what she wants with her life, and stops her from continuing to escort older men for money.

Self assured and the epitome of confidence, Ran has no trouble acting her crazy self and is in no way going to change the way she appears to attract a (much wanted for the most part of the series) boyfriend. She appears to many as self absorbed (well, maybe slightly) and slutty kogal, however Ran is in fact very pure at heart. She refuses to give her body in anyway, kissing included, to anyone unless she assured of their love. She is not a trashy gal who would sleep with anyone who paid it, or go out with any guy that asked her, she respects her body and her heart, and hopes to find someone else who feels the same.

Ran is an energetic 16 year old in her first year at Hounan High School. She's a fun-loving girl who'd rather make up tall tales about being abducted by aliens than do her homework. Born into a family dedicated to serving Tokyo's finest, her parents would love nothing more then to see Ran become a policewoman, but she has no intention of meekly following in their footsteps. Instead, Ran wants to shop, dress up, hang out in Shibuya, and stay a GAL forever. But in spite of her refusal to honour the family tradition, her justice streak is a mile wide, and whenever she sees wrongdoing or a friend in trouble, she'll be the first to set things right.
